Australian Housing Crisis: The High Price We’re Paying

The property market is generally top of mind for the Australian public and policymakers alike, because of the pivotal role it plays in the country’s economy. Even so, home prices have dominated headlines in recent weeks as the turn in the market has upended all forecasts.
Prices rose for a second consecutive month in April, despite the central bank’s almost year-long policy tightening cycle. They are now expected to rise at a slow but steady pace this year instead of the 4% to 5% decline that most economists had estimated.
